Cheney High School Food Drive

Key Club has joined forces with the Army National Guard: Guard Against Hunger Program to run a holiday food drive is underway! Between now and Dec 2nd, bring in as many non-perishable food items as possible and donate them in your first-period class. Last year our goal was 3,000 items, and we blew it out of the park by collecting nearly 3,700 items in total. Our school-wide goal for 2022 is 4000 food items! All of the donated food items will go to local Cheney families in need this holiday season. The first-period class that has the highest average item count per student will win a donut party sponsored by the National Guard, which will take place on Friday, Dec 16. Key Club students will come around at the end of each week until Dec 2 to collect and count items.

Schedule Redesign Update

You may remember last spring, we asked you questions about your experience with the four-period day and what you would like to see in a possible schedule revision. This fall our school guiding coalition has been hard at work taking that input, along with data and research about the best practices for designing high school schedules. Several models have been built by the guiding coalition and feedback has been sought from our teaching staff.

In the coming weeks, we hope to solicit your feedback as well. Be looking for an email on Wednesday, 10/5, that will outline the choices we’ve narrowed down to, and will include a survey to gather your input.  The aim is to choose a model by the end of the month and present our proposed schedule to the district board of directors for approval in November.
